As part of the implementation of Plan No. 457/KH-ĐHKTQD dated March 11, 2026, National Economics University organized a seminar titled “Innovating Undergraduate Admissions from 2027 at National Economics University” on March 28, 2026 in Phu Tho. The event was hosted by the Department of Academic Affairs.
The seminar aimed to provide a comprehensive review of the University’s admission practices in recent years and to explore strategic directions for innovation in the next phase.

At the seminar, Hoang Thanh Ha, M.A., Senior Admissions Specialist, delivered an overview of the University’s undergraduate admissions across different periods. The presentation highlighted significant progress in enrollment scale, admission methods, and student intake quality, particularly since 2021, when admission processes were streamlined and information technology was more extensively integrated into management. Enrollment has grown steadily and is projected to reach approximately 9,000 students by 2026, alongside increasingly diverse admission pathways.

Further insights were offered through a series of in-depth presentations addressing both domestic and international admission trends. Nguyen Thanh Binh, M.A, presented an overview of standardized testing, including both international and national competency assessments, language certifications, and the growing role of national examinations in university admissions. The presentation also drew on comparative experiences from higher education institutions in Vietnam and abroad, proposing several directions for reform.

A key focus of the seminar was the shift toward selecting top talent while adopting a more holistic admissions approach. In the short term, the University will continue to rely on standardized tests, aligned with specific disciplines or fields. In the long term, it plans to develop its own competency-based assessments tailored to each field, discipline group, and academic program, ensuring a better match between admitted students and training requirements.
The seminar also openly addressed several ongoing challenges, including the lack of consistency in admissions policies, frequent regulatory changes, limited institutional autonomy, and disparities in admission scores across disciplines. These issues were identified as priorities for further research and refinement to enhance both the effectiveness and sustainability of the admissions system.

Serving as an important academic forum, the seminar brought together administrators and admissions experts to exchange perspectives, share best practices, and propose solutions aligned with international trends and the University’s development goals. Its outcomes will provide a valuable foundation for the Department of Academic Affairs to develop a forward-looking admissions strategy, contributing to improved training quality and strengthening the position of National Economics University.
